Committee Overview & Role

WRWS Advisory Committee

The "Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the Protection of the Westfield River" – an intergovernmental compact – describes the river segments included in the designation, and the specific roles and responsibilities of each signatory community, agency and organization in protecting the river. The MOA also established the Westfield River Wild & Scenic Advisory Committee (WRWSAC) to manage and administer the Westfield River’s Wild & Scenic designation. WRWSAC is comprised of representatives of the towns of Becket, Chester, Chesterfield, Cummington, Huntington, Middlefield, Savoy, Washington, Windsor and Worthington, as well as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the National Park Service, Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, Berkshire Regional Planning Commission, The Trustees of Reservations, and the Westfield River Watershed Association. Representatives and alternates are appointed by local elected officials, the Commonwealth or appropriate authorities in their organizations they represent.
